The number of problems I ran into while retopologozing was ridiculous! I had to restart about three times until I eventually stopped running into problems.

Finally, it began working and all was going well… but that was short-lived. I had the mirror modifier on and I didn’t want to retopologize the hair symmetrically so I made them as separate objects, not only extending the time spent but also making a bad decision. Looking back I wish I had just switched off the mirror modifier but I didn’t know that was an option at the time and when I did, It was too late to be fixed.

I came to a stop when it was time to unwrap my model. I froze as the faces wouldn’t select and I began to panic, did I just wake a week of my life to rotopologizing something wrong!? Luckily I have been in a similar position not so long ago. I came to realize that my faces must have been facing the wrong way. I was proud that I came to this realization on my own but completely confused about how I had the head perfect but the body completely flipped? With less than a few taps this problem was solved.

Unwrapping absolutely terrified me, I hadn’t grasped the understanding of what the hell it meant and here I was unwrapping a self-made character. I panicked for about a day, delayed the process and then got a move on. I had a few friends remind me what was best and explain to me why what I did was good or bad, I found having friends to talk to about it really helpful.

This is a much further along image but I was able to unwrap my character very successfully!
