This week for class we had to animate a series of bouncing balls.
We started off by animating a simple ball on krita, I hadn’t learned the principles of animation just yet so it looked a bit crooked and quick-paced
The animation is rough and doesn’t precisely follow the principles exactly of squashing and stretching so I knew it could be improved.
For homework, I had to take three different balls with different weights and animate them using the first principle of animation., squash and stretch. I animated a basketball as my first ball.
I feel a little bit like the ball doesn’t move the way a basketball does and maybe that’s because a ball never really falls in a direct straight line.

Instead of Krita, I switched to procreate so I could be faster and do the assignment without getting confused with the program.
Next, I animated a tennis ball and found this one a lot easier. I drew a path for the ball before animating so that I would know where to place the ball as well as the timing and spacing. This ball was light and bouncy so its path was wide and full of arches.
The ball in this one doesn’t squish as well as the basketball because instead of drawing each ball individually I tried to duplicate it and warp its shape a little but it is a bit too obvious in my opinion.

Finally, I chose a bowling ball because it was heavy in weight and very different from what I was used to. Unline the path I had drawn for the tennis ball this bowling ball’s path was short and heavy.
This one personally was easier to animate as I am not a pro bowler so indeed I do know what it is like to drop a bowling ball by mistake.
I enjoyed this project and using the principles of animation in order to create a realistic bouncing ball. I would like to learn Krita a bit more and be more comfortable around it.
