Prior to this course I had very little experience in blender, making small projects and following youtube tutorials but I never learned anything, I just repeated it. When I started off in this course I knew that the 3D aspect would really challenge and entice me.

On week one I felt that I had been thrown into the deep end when asked to make a set of tables and chairs, having very little experience I quietly worked away and grew a little more confident with each prop I made. I couldn’t believe that our homework was an animation and I began panicking, wondering if I was in too deep.

With each passing class, I grew more and more confident in my work and wanted to take it one step further by adding an animation to the tie fighter and zubat and even on the sword. I was enjoying the work a lot and then was hit with another hurdle called texturing. UV mapping took some time to wrap my brain around and sometimes I feel that adding seams is all too confusing. I took pages of notes that I looked back on religiously for my helmet project and was thankful I paid enough attention to take them.

I am really impressed that I have come far enough with 3D modeling that I can be given a prompt and make my own designs, a place I never thought I’d be at five weeks ago. From not being able to make a chair to recreating my favorite superhero’s helmet is pretty sick, although I know I still have a lot to learn I am very proud of my progress with modeling. As for texturing… well I hope that I can learn to grasp using more than one software and hopefully have it like second nature as it is rewarding to see materials being added to the model I spent ages making.
