Today we go put into mini groups to discuss ideas and concepts for making up our own worlds. My group consisted of Daniel, Zoey, Ingrid, Joyce, and myself. We sat around a whiteboard and discussed what our interests were, getting to know each other before starting work. I suggested we each write down our favorite fictional characters and our favorite genre of film. Our list consisted of Horror and was contrasted with Disney Pixar. We each had a pen and from there we began writing down many ideas.

Our whiteboard was messy but full of ideas for world concepts. My marker was green and my ideas revolved around the idea that it was a dystopian, overgrown, futuristic planet set in space, something that consisted of the majority of our favorite genres.

From here we discussed how to go about narrowing the choices down to just 5. As there were 5 of us in the group each of us decided to choose our favorite idea so that it was a fair decision. I chose the dystopian planets connected by overgrown forestry.

We sat down and discussed realistically which idea’s could have a good story and then again narrowed down our decisions. ‘Cities on a big animal’ really stood out to me and we all suggested storylines that could be achieved with this idea.

We decided to go with this idea and formed a discord server so that we could continue to discuss our ideas. Ingrid did some research and found images that reflected our ideas well. Daniel liked the pillars in the church ‘Sagrada Familia’ in Spain which he has seen before.

I used procreate on my iPad to sketch up some ideas for the world. I found it difficult to stick with a drawing style as I never really developed one of my own, it took some time and a bit of patience to get the hang of all the brush options in procreate but eventually I got it finished.

I found this assignment difficult as I have never gone into so much detail digitally before but it was rewarding when finished. I drew two prompts for ‘cities on big animals’, a prompt for ‘underwater world’, two prompts for ‘Day of the dead’, and one prompt for ‘Connected planets’. I enjoyed the brushes for the sea effect that I achieved on my underwater prompts as it seemed more realistic.

While presenting my homework I learned that there wasn’t a need to go into the level of detail that I had and that I had jumped the gun, detail was the homework for the following week.

This assignment helped me learn a lot about my art skills and the creative side of myself, what I enjoy drawing and what I do not, e.g, foreground detail. I enjoyed creating backgrounds with little detail but effective at the same time.
