Fine Art – visualise 2D Photography.

The photography workshop was a two day workshop spread out over a week. On our first day we were given a talk on what the photography course consisted of if we were thinking of choosing it next year. Below are some images of the notes i had taken based of this quick presentation and the job opportunities included. Our first task was the “developing ideas workshop”. For this workshop the aim was to create a situation where we were relaxed to speak about the nature of having ideas. The process involved first, individual ideas and then making them better through group discussion. Creating a list of six ideas on our own we then came together to discuss these ideas and how we could turn them into photographs. Our next task was as a group to each give one another an object, character, animal, person to be and think about the perspective of the thing you were given and how it might differ from your own. I was give the role of a street animal such as a stray cat or dog and this made me think of the perspective of a lonely street animal and how it might be more low to the ground or even climbing up a tree so a higher view perhaps. As a group we then decided to interlink all of our characters perspectives together to create a story board of all the different perspectives. I myself was a stray cat sitting in the tree , Amy played the character of Wednesday Addams which set the monochromatic theme, Sean was a carrot in the bag, Blathnaid was a coffee cup and Ethan was a teabag in the bin. Although all of our assigned roles were completely  unrelated to one another we created our own story which I think can be seen in the story boards below. At the end of the day we were asked to take a series of a least 12 photos over the next week of the beauty of the everyday life or use photos that we may have already taken. We also had to gather a colour card and print of our photos. This was all in aim of creating our own photo books. When the following Thursday came round we had all printed out our photos and bought our card and got to work. The first step in the process was to decide on what size we wanted our books to be and then cut down the white card that was provided to the size we wanted it to be. The carefully either using the folding press or our hands we had to fold each page in half to create a book shape. The same had to be done with our coloured card. Then using the tools provided we had to puncture a whole in each page after measuring the inside of the staples that would hold our book together. Then slowly if possible you push the staples through the holes you have made. I quickly learned that you may not get them all through at the one time and that you might have to put it through each page individually. Once this step was completed and you had folded your staples over so that  they wouldn’t prove to be a hazard in the future, you were free then to trim down the edges of your book  using a sharp blade and a cutting board so that it looked neat and professional. Then was the fun step of sticking your photos into your new book and annotating them if necessary. You could also design the cover of your book and give it a title if you wanted. I choose to name mine “ A year in the life of Faye Ni Chleirchin”  as all my photos seen in the book had been taken over the space of a year. I chose a simple floral design as i thought it added to the beauty of the simplicity of  life. All of the work mentioned above can be viewed in the images below.

Fine Art – Visualise 2D – Laura

For this workshop we were looking into sculpture lens and what it consists of. After having viewed various examples of sculpture lens artists such as Erwin Wurm  and Pipilotti Rist we were asked to create a few short 10 second videos including out ideas of what we wanted out projection to look like. To get the ball rolling on the ideas we as a class made a chain of words starting with the word “plug” and ending in something totally different like fruit.  This helped us build ideas of words we may not have thought of on our own. We were then asked to choose five words of the list of words we had just created and then make five mind-maps based off them words to broaden our ideas even further. The five words I’ve chosen can be seen in the images below and you can also see how some of the words have interlocked with the others through happy accidents. After spending a whole brainstorming i then settled on a few ideas I wanted to try out for my videos. There was the idea of creating a ripple affect in water by dropping different item into a cup of water, also the idea of swirling water to see the bubbles and ripples come to life in the water but in the end i settled on my favourite idea which was lighting a lighter in slow motion. This video proved to be the most entertaining, visually in my opinion. All of these videos can be seen below also. I then needed to rate something to project my video onto. I decided with the help of Laura that the best option was to create a hand out of newspaper and mod paper. I thoroughly enjoyed this process i found it rather therapeutic and the mod paper was quick yo dry and harden. Once the sculpture had dried i then added a layer of white paint to ensure that every nook and cranny was covered for my projection. Unfortunately I didn’t get to complete my projection as I had a hospital appointment at home the morning of, but all of my work up until then can be viewed below. On the Monday we then moved into a more free exercise. We were asked to create a piece based around the lines of the word “Transformation” This left the concept of the art work very open to interpretation. To start off the process we were required to create a mind-map and brainstorm ideas around that word.  I began thinking of the many ways things can transform in life and quickly started to jot down ideas. Eventually i narrowed it down to four and then finally one. I decided that my idea was going to based around rotting fruit and how it can transform from something beautiful and clean into something rotting and disgusting. I wit the help of Lauras advice added in tissue paper , bubble wrap and cellophane to add texture to my painting. What I found hardest about this project was trying to break free from a neat painting and instead create something messy and disgusting to represent how the apple would really amke you feel if you were to see it in real life. I then proceeded to layer paint over the tissue paper ands continue to layer thre marking of the bubble wrap over the painting to really give off a messy feel. This can all be seen below. This was my favourite part of the workshop as it really pushed me to loosen up and go outside my comfort zone and i think that really payed off in my final piece. 8CC4E7FB-0BF5-469C-B610-12AE2FE677D1 02E263BF-F2EB-4740-A4A6-2A8472047B09 5FF1794D-04A8-4C49-8BD4-D5536916B828 81434D11-EDFC-43C0-8EBF-C7EAE813EEA9 5B347727-152D-4911-88B7-5B11555C9421

3D Design

For the product design workshop we were asked to create a series of constrictions out of paper. I choose the circular tubes as my theme while cutting out diffrent shapes in each tube to see how it plays in the light. I also tried out a triangular constriction but strolled that i enjoyed the circular one more. I also created four diffrent a5 pages exploring the idea of pleats. As you can see below. There is also a sketch of a mannequin  with various fabric draped over it to be seen below, along with some examples of my weave from last year.

Welcome to your Blog!

This is the place for you to upload images and catalogue your progress. On the front page (where you are now), your posts will appear in chronological order, newest at the top, oldest at the bottom.

To help you and your lecturers navigate your posts, you need to assign to the right category to each new post (see the post below this one to learn how to create a new post).

The menu at the top of your blog lets you select a category and look at the posts in that category alone.

Adding a post to your Blog

To add a new post to your blog,

  1. Click + New in the menu:

  2. Choose Post in the dropdown menu:

  3. In the Add a New Post, enter your post title (1) and choose which category your post belongs to (2).

Choosing the right category is extremely important. If you don’t choose the correct category for your post, your lecturer will assume you didn’t post any work.
