Daniel gave us the task last week to read through this digital book and make notes on chapter three which focus on the creation of a proposal document. With this he has also requested that we do further research into proposal to grasp a better idea behind the meaning and reasonings behind these.
I started off this book by making notes on what a proposal is and when and why you should use a proposal. Before I looked further into what goes into a proposal or how to begin creating one I knew I had further understand the meaning and reasoning behind using a proposal document for a business and found this this book done the job.
Alongside reading the book suggested above I also researched further with podcasts and YouTube videos that could explain to me further in detail the points highlight prior. I done some researched this way because I tend to struggle to take in the details when reading from a screen, so watching and listening to someone else explain the subject is something that I find more helpful. However, I am aiming to print the book above off if I am allowed which will give me the chance to highlight and have a physical copy to make notes on which again I find a lot easier when given a task to research and discover more about a subject.
Martin Bisset is the founder of the Bissett Group family of brands serving the accounting profession had a podcast back in 2017 that focused on the development of business on a budget. Martin has a 1:11 minute episode within this podcast that goes through the importance of a proposal and what it provides for the client. I found this a quick podcast to come across and gave me the chance to note down bullet points while listening.
I also found this video along side others that help me grasp a further understanding, however this one allowed me to take the most away from watching the videos. Adriana Girdler gives help and tips of proposal writing which was the area I was panicking about the most while trying to understand this subject. Adrian went through:
- The basics of how to write a proposal for a project
- Tips on writing a proposal that you won’t get anywhere else
- How to create a project proposal that stands out
- How to write a proposal that will get people excited about your project
- And other essential project management proposal tips
All thanks to the research and sources I have found to further my understanding I have discovered that proposals are crucial pieces of documentation that can make or break a business or someone self employed when it is their aim to plan an offer for the creation of an idea or piece of work. The proposal in a business setting is the way that you pitch your ideas and a document that showcases your requirements to do so. With the correct detailing, understanding and acceptance a proposal document can become a legal binding contract once you sign your name on the dotted line.
Creating a Proposal
Taking from the suggested book and video above a professional proposal document consists of:
- Title Page
- Project overview
- Project Approach
- Scope of work
- Assumptions
- Deliverable
- Ownerships and Rights
- Additional costs and fees
- Project Pricing
- Acknowledgement and sign off
When it comes to creating my proposal document and revaluate these points.
Overall I enjoyed this task in getting to dive deeper into what and how I can use an effective proposal document because I haven’t had to learn or read into this before. I have an interest in business and documentations such as this and look forward to getting to create my own document for a business opportunity in the coming weeks.
