Pocket Profile – Clever Franke

Clever Franke

When looking into the Dutch Design movement I came across a design agency by the name of Clever Franke, this one was extremely interesting as it steered away from the initial principles of the Dutch Design movement and other movements like the International Typographic Style. Instead of placing their focus on typography and structured grid layouts Clever Franke focused their design style to data analysis where they used data to influence and inspire their designs and create art revolved around data visualisation. The agency describes their aim as solving complex business problems, bringing simplicity back to our lives in addition to providing visual experiences that create change within the world.[1]

Initially created by Gert Franke and Thomas Clever who are now directors of the company, Clever Franke has worked on a vast number of projects over the years in a number of different design mediums. The agency has gained a huge amount of credibility through its work with Google, Oxford University, Red Bull, Warner Music Group and The New York Times which has led to the company being featured in a numerous amount of articles and news publications including the infamous Forbes, which I’m sure we have all heard of at least once in our lifetime.[1]

I have included some of Clever Franke’s work below to illustrate how they used data visualisation to create designs that solved problems and how they influenced infographic design in the modern world.
