Week 12 – The Final Countdown

The Final Countdown

Marking Rubric & Grading Criteria

In our last lecture of IXD104 – Image & Data Visualisation we took a look at the marking rubric and grading criteria for the whole module and how much beach project is worth towards out final grade. Our travel application project is worth 40% of our final grade for this module, our infographic project is worth 20% and our research and supporting material making up the final 40% of the module – 10% of the research and supporting material is dedicated to professionalism and how we manage the work load. We had looked at the marking rubric for our IXD103 – Exploring Identity module on Monday which really helped me gain an understanding of what was required to ensure I don’t miss anything when it comes to submitting my work.

I have included a general overview of the grade brackets below:

  • Fail – Poor (0-39)
  • 3rd – Satisfactory (40-49)
  • 2:2 – Adequate (50-59)
  • 2:1 – Good (60-69)
  • 1st – Excellent/Outstanding (70-100)

Summer Break Plans

As we have a lot of time off over the summer I want to try and make sure I keep my design skills up-to-date, my aim is to come into second year with 110% so I want to make the most of my time over the summer to ensure I am not overloaded when it comes to later on in the year. My first consideration is money and finances, as I will have more free time due to not having research and project work to do I will be picking up more hours at work to ensure I have enough money aside to last me while I am in my second year, I found that my work really got in the way of my first year and caused me to miss a lot of classes which I don’t want to continue into my second year of the course. My second consideration is my portfolio and getting ready to apply for design jobs, I want to set aside at least 1 day each week where I can focus on creating my personal brand and my portfolio to give me a head start when it comes to second year as I think we will be focusing on this towards the end of 2022. Ideally if I can get everything together before I start back in September that would be perfect but I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself as I also want to start up my clothing line brand Off The Press as this has been on my mind for a while.

I have included a list of what I plan to focus on over the summer break below:

  • Portfolio/Personal Brand
  • Off The Press
  • Design Skills
  • Books
  • Working & Saving Money

Group Critique & Feedback

After we went through the marking rubric and grading criteria we started to go through what we had created so far for our infographic project, I didn’t receive a huge amount of feedback from the class on my infographic but the comments I did get were good enough for me to make some tweaks to my design in order to improve it. Initially my lecture Paul liked the design I had created but had a few ideas on certain things that could be changed so I will be revisiting my design to make these changes, overall I am happy with what I have so far and think I am almost done with this module in terms of what work I have left to complete.

One comment I received from one of my classmates was to break up the content into more manageable paragraphs as some of them are lengthy, I totally agree with this comment and this is something I will be changing when I revisit my design. Another comment I received was to change Australia to Oceania as Australia is a country and not a continent, again this is something I totally agree with and will be changing when I revisit the project. Overall they had liked the colour palette I had chosen for my project and how I had visualised the data I had collect, personally im not a huge fan of the green/teal colour I have chosen for this project but I think that is just personal preference and something I need to get over as the colour does work with the topic of the infographic.

I will be revisiting my design over the weekend when I am off work and finishing up the rest of my research and blog content to ensure I am well ahead of schedule going into the Easter holidays, I still have a bit to do on my IXD103 – Exploring Identity project so that is going to be my main focus and priority over the Easter break.
