Pocket Profile – Studio Dumbar

Studio Dumbar

Studio Dumbar is a Dutch design company based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 1977 by Gert Dumbar the design studio has gained a vast amount of credibility over the years and has had a huge impact on design for the modern world. The studio was originally located in Hague until it relocated to Rotterdam in 2003 where they began to put themselves on the map of design history.[1]

Studio Dumbar is quite possibly one of the most influential design studios that helped develop the Dutch design movement to what we know today, the studio has a vast amount of work under their belt and consider themselves to be specialists in visual identity and communication design recognising themselves as an international branding agency.[2] The studio has worked on a variety of different projects over its lifetime but Studio Dumbar’s primary focus was on creating visual identities for brands, some of which include Adidas, Transavia, The Dutch National Police, The Van Gogh Museum and the Chelsea Nike Megastore just to name a few.[1] The work the studio had create for these brands had a huge impact on their reputation as being an international branding agency that were experts in communication design.[2]

I have included some of Studio Dumbar’s work below to illustrate their influence in the Dutch Design movement and how they used typography considering principles from the Swiss Design movement.
