Pocket Profile – Milton Glaser

Milton Glaser

Milton Glaser was a renowned graphic designer throughout the mid 1900’s where he was situated in New York, USA at the time. Born in 1929, Glaser has worked with a lot of big named companies over the years to establish himself as an influential figure within the design industry, some of the companies include DC Comics, Bob Dylan, Stony Brook University and Brooklyn Brewery. In addition to working on project from these companies, Milton Glaser is probably most recognisable for the work he had done for the infamous I Love New York logo that has become a huge influence on graphic design for tourism, not just in the USA but all around the world inspiring tourism design in places like Amsterdam and Barcelona.[1]

In addition to his famous works on the I Love New York logo, Milton Glaser has also worked on a variety of different mediums on design throughout his career such as poster designs, book publication design and even architectural designs where he was able to expand his skills and knowledge of design into further areas. Glaser has obtained a number of different awards for his work throughout his life time but the most notable ward being the National Medal of the Arts which he was awarded in 2009 by President Obama, this was a huge accomplishment as he was the first graphic designer to ever receive this award especially from the President of the United States of America.[2] Milton Glaser has had such an amazing career in design throughout his lifetime and has created his own design studio called Milton Glaser Inc. as well as having a documentary published about his work and his life.

I have included some of Milton Glaser’s work below to give you an idea on what projects he worked on throughout his lifetime and how his work has influenced modern design today.
