Windmill Progress

In this blog post I am going to be talking about my progress on my windmill project. After settling on a final design I went straight to maya and began modeling.

I originally starting the tower my extruding everything from a cylinder and then the hut from extruding from a cube. But later on in the middle of my project this appeared to be the biggest mistake I could have made so I restarted using different objects for each part of the project.

As you can see here instead of using the extrusion at the bottom of the tower, hut and the middle of the tower. I instead used beveled cubes to make the tower look like its make out of cobble. I also made an older fashioned door. I did this by using the same beveled cubes, I created a line of them then I used the bend tool to make the arch for the door. I made the individual panels by modifying the vertices of different cubes.

The next thing I tackled was the windows on the hut. which I made using a same process of the doors I used individual cubes for the window panels and then combined them together.

When making my tower I was really stuck on the roof of my model. I had an idea of how I wanted it to look thanks to m sketch but once I put it in the model I didn’t like it. So from here I experimented with different roofs.

I gave the model this rounder roof and I preferred it but something was still missing. Then it clicked. The roof sort of looks like a mushroom top so. I turned on soft selection and I modified the vertices. I added small spheres to the roof and finally came out with a result that I liked.
