Semester 1 Assignment 1- Reflection

This assignment has allowed me to learn so much about this particular pipeline. For one, I know more fully now that you can never know too much. Unreal Engine is such a massive tool and trying to learn more about it, and starting to test my assets and textures in it earlier would have made a big difference when it came to the efficiency with which I would have been able to work. Speaking of how big a tool Unreal is, it was incredible to have been able to have auteurial control over everything in the scene. Studying Moving Image Arts in school, there were always significant limitations on what I could achieve, but with Unreal (and a student license) budget isn’t an issue and having such full creative control felt so powerful. The biggest thing I’ll be taking away from this assignment, however, is to ensure that an idea is decided upon as early as possible so as everybody can start working towards a common goal, because as a group our idea changed a lot, which meant we didn’t have an environment to work from until very late on in the process, and in the time between what we thought was our idea and what became our idea everyone was discombobulated. That said, I’m glad to have been able to learn from our misgivings.
