Intro to Substance Painter

Week 4 mostly consisted of an intro to Substance Painter and (aside from an excruciating few days trying to resolve account issues) I really enjoyed it! I was worried that my laptop wouldn’t be able to handle it but it ran very well considering. Getting to experiment with different materials and aesthetics and lighting scenarios and environments was so fun for me. Everything being so changeable was a big part of that; trial and error were my best friends.

Without a doubt this has been the most engaging and interesting part of the 3D pipeline to me so far. So much character can be added to an asset by simple decision making- what colours you use, what materials, how much rust on the metal, how many scratches on the wood, how much wear on the leather, will it look precious or will it look worn and unsophisticated? All questions that can result in entirely different outcomes when applied to the model.
