To finalise my storyboards, I applied Sarah’s suggestion of re-using shot 8 for the first two. In the end, I might end up leaving out shot 3, as Sarah pointed out it didn’t add much to the story, and since I have a lot to do it might be best to rid myself of it.
For my background art I wanted moderate simplicity but broad appeal, so I used UPA’s work for reference which I think can be seen in the simpler shapes in the shadows, as well as in the complimentary colour scheme- I chose purple and yellow to give a sense of otherworldliness, using a ‘glow dodge’ layer and a noise brush in Clip Studio Paint with a tennis ball green colour to push the mood and the highlights even further. By way of the line quality, I looked to the illustrative (and UPA-influenced) world of 101 Dalmatians (1961), which helped me figure out the style I was going for.

In class we got to break down and simplify some of our character designs to make them easier to work with in storyboards and animatics or any other rough work.
