I chose this clip from one of my favourite shows Brooklyn99. I though this sound extract had a lot of potential because of how emotional and angry the original acting was. i imported the audio in blender and made sure i made turned in scrubbing.
I started with the lipsyncing poses which i did in uni, however when i transferred the files into one drive and then downloaded them at home, the poses were gone from the pose library. But the animation was still there so i wasn’t too bothered.
When animating the mouth shapes i tried to closely match the teeth bearing of anger that the original clip showed.
i learned that one of the common mistakes when it came to lipsyncing was that some try to animate very letter of a word. keeping that in mind i made sure not to do this. I animated the mouth and facial expressions pose to pose first on its own then i tweaked some of the lips to give it variety and more emphasis then other words.
For body references, i didnt want to copy what was in the show so i filmed my roommate and directed her how to act out the audio. I filmed her doing the same shot from different angles.
i made it a point to include body movements that mimicked the inflections in tones of the voice. for example when the voice went up the shoulders and neck when up and back like the character was was unbelievably angry at POV. At this point i only had 6 seconds of lipsyncing so i made it longer, using keanu reeves from cyber punk to animate 5 last seconds of the dialog.
Taking to account that this was my last animation i did for the assignment i think the performance here was alot more smooth having a better understanding of the rig from the past animations. i took care to emphasis certain plosives, fricatives and vowels to get the emotion across. like WRONG and FLUFFY. unlike the other animations through i animated this one in straight forward as i was using my own reference video for this one. i think the timing could be a tiny bit faster but it is synced to the audio.
i exported the animation and used a video editor to add the audio on top. I also thought about staging and where i should place the camera and how it should move. i kept it POV from two different angles and animated a swing when the character came in contact.
Again, i used object constraint for the “Fluffy boy” prop and i have not used it correctly. If i had more time i would have asked for feed back for that i could. this animations work flow was alot faster, then the other animations. compared to the others i decided to not animate the body in pose to pose but rather, in straight ahead. while animating i found myself miming out the words while looking into the selfie camera on my phone which helped alot. I am happy how it turned out.
