Lego Batman Article: Reanimating the Dark Knight: Superheroes, Animation and the Critical Reception of The Lego Batman Movie.
Seen in the Multimedia
In the Articles I researched, how batman started from a small beginning in a comic book issue in 1939 and how the media represent him and how reception of Batman has changed. How Lego batman using animation has given a new way that creatively dose the hero better and its effects on its fan base.
Batman was first seen as a classic detective comic with a mysteries story. After that small comic issue they later made more comics that build more on Batman and made him a colourful, fun detective intended to teach kids. It taught and promoted fighting crime and how moral standards make a good citizen.
The invention of Batman now in modern media has left an cultural impact and being world wide know as Cultural icon. For many it can be defined as a “centrepiece” to many films, television series and videogames. The well known success in multimedia has made Batman relies on this great Cultural impact success it has across multiple media platforms. For their main big income comes from merchandise
The beloved Vigilantly always seems to attract both old and new fans with each new story realise
Fans know him in so many different forms of media because of the wide range of media output of batman that a 2019 servery was interested in what area seem to be fans first introduction of Batman. They found the biggest percentage of 24% of both Live action and Comics book making up 48% together in the chart. what I found interesting
On to Films
Adam West’s 1966 make of Batman is the first film of Batman. It was styled to be goofy and purposely targeted to kids, with toy-like devices and vehicles and simplistic, nutty plotlines. His film kept with the Authentic style of Batman and well represented the comic idea of batman of the time period
Then 1978 was the start of golden age of superhero’s
At this time superhero films were very popular and in 1989 the first ground breaking big budget movie for Batman was made.
However, this marked the start to a slow move away from the kid audience’s and going into a more Neo Noirish, psychologically dark kind of batman that fans had been wanting at that time.
Conclusion
This is where I agree with this article. The Article states that you can see since after the bad reception of (2016) Batman vs Superman, dawn of justice. Fans had wanted a change of the same old Batman across all it platforms. This lead open the perfect timing to introduce (2017) Lego batman movie. Lego Batman brought it back to being fun and had reverted it back to elements of the classics comical Batman.
Similar to how majority of Spiderman Fans now want all spiderman media to be done in animations. Batman fans also suggested the same should be done, that animation is possibly the most ideal new medium for their hero across all Batman media output.
Now I would have said that this might lead Batman down to only focusing on Animation output and in result might lose a section of protentional fan who would have only known Batman from watching live action TV. However the 2019 Chart shown earlier was made two years after Lego Batman was realise. It shows that it may have helped Batman reach out to get 17% new fans who would have not been interested if they did not get first introduced through the animated movies. Couniting to improve and promote Batman success across the multimedia platforms.
