MAJOR PROJECT : PASSING NOTES

(2D HAND DRAWN SOLO PROJECT)

For my Final Year Project I’d like to create a character/story driven music video style animation, based on my already existing characters. Bonk and Stacy along with my close friend’s characters Xanax as the main subjects of the film. I plan to animate a song by Jonathan Coulton with these characters. I want it to be funny, cute, a bit heart warming and a fun overall experience and I’d be happy to share the song with others through this project as a bonus, as his music means a lot to me.

I want to push myself further than I have for this year and learn compositing as well as how to improve every element of the process so that my film can be the best it can be! To achieve this I will be doing a lot of thorough research, taking notes and asking tutors for advice.

I struggled on coming up with an idea for this year during my time in LOA ( Leave of absence) though I got the idea for this project as I realized that I usually imagine animations to one artist’s music in particular, with the same character being Bonk.

My character Bonk is a very important character to me and has been seen in my university work before. For this project he will be designed for a certain age that I don’t usually draw him at and will be interacting with characters he has specific dynamics with. The world present is one that I have created with Ciara Mcgreevy and Lel Vaisla. The film will take place in our character’s birth place which is a fictional state based in America with British and Irish traditions and culture cues mixed together with said American ones.The characters are anthropomorphic animals but also have human counterparts and designs with different ethnicities and cultures that are also present in the anthro designs,but not as clear e.g. specific features, skin colours and hair colours.

At the moment I’m not sure what path I’ll take for the film (Human or Anthro), but I will start concepting with both paths in mind.

I came in the week before school for an introductory class which is when I showed Alec my board that I had thrown together (BELOW), I had also shown Henry and wrote down their feedback, along with brainstorming to make the story stronger by following their advice!
