Having finished the Major Project for final year I want to reflect on the work this past academic year. Ellie Wilson and I had worked together to make a 6-minute animated horror short film. I am happy with the film. This was my first time working on an animated short film of this length with another person as well as my first time working on a horror based project, so this was all a new experience for me.
Throughout the project Ellie and I had to conflict over creative decisions, as we are very different as artists, but we were able to debate our stances and reach compromises. This is worth mentioning as disagreements are a part of any team project and these moments were good learning experiences for dealing with similar situations in a professional context.
We split the work evenly between ourselves, with me designing all the backgrounds and doing most of the clean up for animation as Ellie organised presentations and did all of the composition in After Effects. The output of work between us is of a quality I’m happy with and consistent throughout the film.
This project was a good learning experience, I learned a lot about teamwork and compromise and have a deeper appreciation for working in the animation pipeline with a collaborator on a project of this scale. If given the chance I would work in a team again, although I would probably chose to work in a larger group in order to lighten workload and I think a more diverse range of perspectives would lead to less conflict.
