Final Year Major Project – 11 – Redesigning Vincent

I was encouraged by some lecturers to go back and change Vincent’s design, as some felt it was too plain while also being too obvious that he is a vampire. I went back and attempted to add flair to the design we had, with some design aspects like a scarf or facial hair, but none of this worked as it was adding features onto an already flawed design, so I chose to start over again.

I looked at the features Ellie and I wanted Vincent to have, we wanted him to be tall and thin, be a “pretty boy”, look friendly and approachable while still having a unique style. I thinned out and softened a lot of his features and gave him long hair and made his default expression less intimidating. Once I had the face right I was able to move onto the outfit.

I followed the same ideas as to his face and tried a variety of designs, some wearing more casual clothes in order to appear less intense. The design that was most liked had him wearing a turtleneck (in order to cover his vampire bite) and a blazer/hoodie combo that I really liked.

I moved onto colour, this time treating red as an accent colour, in order to downplay the vampirism while still giving him a colour scheme separate from Valerie and Meredith.

Now, after many iterations we had Vincent’s final character design.
