Having finished my Unreal Engine Project I now want to reflect on my work. This semester has been very interesting, getting to work with and learn how to use Unreal Engine and understand the basics of it, along with how it can be applied to animation. I quite enjoyed how it renders in real time, so changes to environment and lighting can be viewed immediately, instead of needing to be rendered out, like with Maya. There was some frustration in learning a new program, but after some help from lecturers I was able to get a handle of it.
Once again, I enjoyed working with a group to nail down a style, story and theme and the work of my group members was great.
I’m personally happy overall with my work in the assignment, there are definitely some areas that could be improved, a couple of models were serviceable, but could have been improved and I think my cinematic was quite good, as I was able to apply some of my skills and knowledge from doing Moving Image Arts in secondary school to tell a wordless story with just visuals.
I think that Unreal Engine is a very useful tool for cinematic and animation and I look forward to using it in future.
