200 word reflection hard surface model

Being new to 3d, I designed a sword and shield using large bulky shapes to avoid complex forms. The shield was particularly challenging as the shape was more organic than hard surface. I would have started this project sooner had I not been preoccupied with modelling a basic sword as practice for the final model. By modelling a basic sword first, I learned to use the multi-cut tool, make leather straps wrap around the handle and experimented with textures in substance painter. I enjoyed layering different textures to achieve the desired worn bone look and painting on less predictable material such as blood and large cracks in the weapons. During my first attempt at baking in substance painter, my sword had an undesired shape on its hilt. With my new understanding of topology, I fixed all engons in the affected area and rearranged them into quads. Modelling took longer than expected but a strong base would avoid future exporting and texturing issues. Lecturers were very helpful, answering my question and demonstrating their modelling approach. In completion of this project, I am accustomed to the programs used and the 3d modelling workflow and I am pleased with the results of my monster hunter inspired weapons.
