For this exercise, I was tasked with unwrapping UV maps. This was a great exercise in understanding where to cut forms to unfold them and where to place textures for the desired look.
It was helpful to compare the UV map to a paper toy like the one below I sourced from Google.
The first and simplest model was a dice because of its evenly sized faces.I took a snapshot of the Uv map and saved it as a PNG.After matching the texture to the UV map in photoshop, I hid the map before exporting so the guidelines wouldn’t appear on the model.
The hammer was the most challenging of the 3 models because it required multiple textures. I used the layout tool which laid out the faces in an organised fashion making texturing easier.
Our challenge from today’s class was to apply a UV map to a model we had already made. I applied this logo to my milkshake .Its important to make cuts in areas that feel natural and that wont effect the models appearance too much because they leave an undesirable seam.
