The video below explains that The Flour sack is a great exercise for novice animators because it teaches the importance of clarity in gestures to convey emotion. If you can imbue an object with a personality you can do the same with human and animal characters.
I sketched out gestures using lines of action in my sketchbook as I got used to drawing the flour sack. I then highlighted my favourites for potential animations.
Sad
In my first flour sack animation, the action happens too fast so the viewer doesn’t have enough time to read the action. More frames would slow the action down creating a smoother motion.
Scared
I like the poses in this sequence but again it moved too fast. Lecturers advised me to hold Keyframes to make the action easier to read.
This exercise has taught me the importance of clear posing. In future animations, I can use the flour sack shape as the torso of the human body . Squashing and stretching it to express character action and emotions.
