This assignment, we were given the brief to create a cute character that fit two rules in particular:
- No fur, hair or feathers unless sculpted on.
- The entire scene has to be within 40,000 polys or slightly over.
With those in mind, and the encouragement to experiment, I began looking at different inspirations on Pinterest. I collected different sources from other artists, finding aspects that I found cute so it could inform my sketching process. Here are a few examples of what I considered.
I kept all this in mind as I sketched up some initial concepts to work from.
I included notes to work from further, but after talking it over with Henry, we both decided that the crow would be the best design to build upon and work from. I admit I’m a little nervous as I don’t tend to draw animals, especially not birds, so that lack of anatomical knowledge may come to bite me during the sculpting phase, but we shall see.
