IXD102: Week 9 – Postmodernism
Today’s class centred around the post modernism movement and some of the key names which helped cement the movement. I enjoyed looking at this topic as it was a topic my group almost decided to create our presentation on for our group presentation so I was intrigued to find out more about the topic.
The Post modernism movement was regarded as ‘a climate of cultural change’, a broad movement that developed in the mid-to-late 20th century across philosophy, the arts, architecture, and criticism, marking a departure from modernism. The movement allowed designers to start exploring methods outside of the norm and challenge the hierarchy.
Wolfgang Weingart:
Wolfgang Weingart was an internationally known graphic designer and typographer. His work was categorized as Swiss typography and he was credited as “the father” of New Wave or Swiss Punk typography. He rejected many of the principles of working with right angles and used shapes instead, experimenting with form and shape. Fascinated by the effects of letter spacing, pushing the boundaries to see what was considered ‘unreadable’.
