Design Principles
Today in class we were introduced to the principles of design, beginning with the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio. As a class, using Miro, we collated photographs of the golden ratio represented within nature to give us a base knowledge before we jumped into the Fibonacci sequence.

Using the website https://type-scale.com, I redesigned my manifesto using the scale of the golden ratio (1.618) to resize it. I loved that you could see the difference between a smaller 6.11px and a larger 67.77px font.

The Fibonacci sequence is a set of numbers where each number is the sum of the two proceeding numbers. We used this sequence through today’s class to create designs with point, line and plane.
1 1 2 3 4 8 13 21 34 55 89 144 233 377

I began with creating a 9 square grid in Figma and used the numbers in the Fibonacci sequence to scale the size of my points, lines and planes. For example, in the first row I made all of the larger circles 377px and the smaller ones were 89px. Using a similar method for the other rows I created interesting designs with the same principle. I was overall really happy with this being my first task in Figma as I had never used the software before and picked it up quite quickly.
Next we took the same principle to create the layout of iPhone screens on a website, still maintaining the Fibonacci sequence scale. I took inspiration from well-known websites – Tesco, Translink and Spotify to create a visually pleasing design and using spots of colour associated with the brands (for example, dark blue for Tesco.) I feel as though I learned a lot today, particularly using a new software and I know it is only the basics skills for benefiting me throughout interaction design.
