When it comes to the idea of Gender and how, why or when it should be applied in today’s modern media and animation, my simple answer to this question is, i don’t care. in my opinion i don’t think that gender is as important in animation as people think it is, although it is a part of character design and development, there are many animations and storylines that the gender of a character doesn’t necessarily have to be relevant to get a point or theme across, gender shouldn’t be seen as a key aspect that needs to be applied to every animation, it should only be seen mainly as a theme, and should only be tackled by writers who know about the subject matter at hand, as too many times have i seen writers who simply apply certain gender tropes to give the appearance of diversity rather than actually focussing on the subject, writers should simply write their own stories and have faith in their own writing rather than having to rely on a topic they may not know much about, though i feel that this pressure comes from the modern day online cancel culture that ostracizes content creators simply because they’re own writing does not include their demographic, when there is now a myriad of different shows and films that have the topic of gender and sexual diversity that they can choose from, this is hurtful to writers as they would then have to write about a topic that their creation may not focus on, this in turn causes the writing to suffer from being weighed down by the unnecessary inclusion of a topic that may not fit into the narrative, themes or environment that the writer is trying to get across.
