Communication

When it comes to communication, it can be done in a myriad of different ways, the main definition of communication is the act of imparting information through the use of various mediums, such as speech, writing, visual significance, values, etc. the simple point is communicating a message can be done in many different ways, for example, when it comes to companies, their usually method of communication is through symbolic and visual communication, mainly in the form of a logo, logos are a great method of quickly and effectively giving an identity to the company by making the consumer associate the company and what they do, sell, make, etc with that logo.

Though how does a logo communicate this? Well it can be through a few ways, either through colour, such as through Google’s distinct red, yellow, green and blue, these four distinct colours that make up at least one of Google’s front page has become so synonyms with the web browser, that the colours alone would be enough to be associate with the website.

Or perhaps the simple design of the logo is enough, a good example of this would be the well known Olympics logo and it’s five connected circles, even without the corresponding colours, many people would know what the logo is representing simply by the design of the logo itself.

Or even the font of the logo can be a indicator to the company its associated with, probably the best example would be that of Disney’s well known found that it’s name is mostly found in, the font itself is called Waltograph, and it’s distinct style is synonyms with the company itself.

Gender

When it comes to the idea of Gender and how, why or when it should be applied in today’s modern media and animation, my simple answer to this question is, i don’t care. in my opinion i don’t think that gender is as important in animation as people think it is, although it is a part of character design and development, there are many animations and storylines that the gender of a character doesn’t necessarily have to be relevant to get a point or theme across, gender shouldn’t be seen as a key aspect that needs to be applied to every animation, it should only be seen mainly as a theme, and should only be tackled by writers who know about the subject matter at hand, as too many times have i seen writers who simply apply certain gender tropes to give the appearance of diversity rather than actually focussing on the subject, writers should simply write their own stories and have faith in their own writing rather than having to rely on a topic they may not know much about, though i feel that this pressure comes from the modern day online cancel culture that ostracizes content creators simply because they’re own writing does not include their demographic, when there is now a myriad of different shows and films that have the topic of gender and sexual diversity that they can choose from, this is hurtful to writers as they would then have to write about a topic that their creation may not focus on, this in turn causes the writing to suffer from being weighed down by the unnecessary inclusion of a topic that may not fit into the narrative, themes or environment that the writer is trying to get across.

Place

The significance of place within films are key to creating engaging and believable environments, while most of the time studios may simply create backgrounds and environments using simple tactics such as green screen, set building and post production CGI, though there are simply certain aspects to film that can’t be recreated through digital medium, this is where the significance of place comes in, as when shooting certain scenes that require specific environments, atmospheres, weather, etc, it’s important to know where to find these types of locations.

Probably one of the most well known film series to utilize real world locations to give their films a specific sense would be the Lord Of The Rings series, with almost over 150 real world scenes used throughout the trilogy, nearly all of them based in New Zealand, it is clear that the crew of these movies were very keen on making sure that the places they filmed at held just as much importance as the writing or acting did.

The scene that were filmed weren’t simply just for simply settings or passing moments, many of the areas that were used were needed for key scenes for the film, such as the main setting for the land of Mordor, which was filmed on Tongariro national park, with the titular Mount Doom being filmed on Mount Ruapehu. Tongariro National park seemed like a perfect fit for the movie’s setting, due to it being set on New Zealand’s volcanic north island.

Innovation

The idea of innovation is seen as adaptaing or evolving an already existing concept to make it better, more effective or more efficient, though it’s more than just physical aspects when it comes to innovation, something can have new ideas, values or methods of doing things and yet, at its core, remain what it originally was. When it comes to animation innovation is probably one of the main aspects animators strive for when performing their craft, as they’d need to make their animations not only look original, but stylised and distinct enough to appeal to a wide audience, many animators do this by simply having distinct art styles and designs to their animations, but really talented animators innovate by using various animation methods as well as styles to not only give their animation a distinct look, but a particular experience the viewer can enjoy,

A particularly recent movie to show this type of innovation, and one of my particular all time favourites, would be the 2019 movie, Spider-Man: Into the spider verse, the team behind into the spiderverse managed to give the movie a distinct feel that makes it stand out among other current animated films at the time, one such way they did this was, rather than simply animating in 24 frames per second and creating a new image each frame, they instead animated each frame “on twos”, this, simply put, meant that each frame that was drawn lasted one frame longer than usual, giving the movie a more static feel, though some may see this as a downside, the team made it work by giving the characters much more pronounced poses and movements, the movie wasn’t animate entirely in twos however, in particular scenes, such as more action originated scenes, they were animated in ones, this makes the shots look a lot more fluid and satisfying to watch.

Identity

When it comes to the idea of identity it can be taken in many various and different ways, although the main broad term of identity simply states that it is the fact of being who or what a person or thing is, identity can be shaped and interpreted into whatever the interpreter wishes it to be, such as large companies/corporations, they usually use the idea of identity as a form of self promotion, usually by using ideas such as logos, names and slogans, though this is a very surface level type of identity, only really using it to establish simply what/who they are and what they do, though when it comes to individual personality, it can vary widely from person to person, not only that, but a person perception on their own identity will change constantly throughout their lives, some people could suffer from a strong lack of identity, this struggle of self usually comes from great stress or change in a person’s life, this idea of lack of identity usually causes the person to question not only what their role is in life, but much deeper issues, such as what they stand for and what drives them in life, such as their passions, belief, etc. this type of thinking could lead quickly to other mental health issues and even physical health issues, such as depression, anxiety, irritability, loss of appetite, fatigue, sleep issues and many more.

Unfortunately, there is no specific way to consistently rid oneself of identity issues, though their our methods that may at least ask some internal question some may be asking that may clear up some anxieties they may have, usually by going out and searching for things that make you happy are a great way of dealing with it, trying new hobbies and activities to both keep your mind busy and give you something in life to hold on to, another great way to is to not deal with they issues alone, finding support in friends and family, or if you prefer more professional help, it does no harm to visit therapist or counsellor to talk these issues through.

All in all it is completely natural for one to question their self at some point throughout their life, as looking back on who you are and what you believe will, most of the time, change you for the better, though these questions are in no way easy to answer, which is why so many people suffer from the issue of a lack of self and identity, but with the right help and finding out more about oneself, people can make it through the issue of an identity crisis. .
