Sculpture Project Brief
For this module we’ve been tasked into designing a sculpture/exhibit that would be displayed at Bouy Park, beside the university, we’ll be designing two marquees for this module, one will be a quick mock up design to get a general idea of how we could adjust and change in our second, our second design will be much more in depth. When designing these marquees there will be many things that’ll have to be taken into consideration, safety is one aspect, will the exhibit be safe for various audiences, children, the elderly, etc, and how can the exhibit adapt for these audiences.
Scale will also be important when designing the marque, sizing it up to the average size of a person would be a simple way of going about it, though I may have to also scale other aspects such as width. though i estimate that the sculpture may be around 4 to five meters tall while it may be around 2 meters in width
Colour and texture will also have to be taken into consideration, the material of the exhibit would be made out of cheap but sturdy materials, maybe such as acrylic glass, this would also give the intended colour of lime/turquoise that I would be going for.
What exactly will this exhibit mean? I may simply leave it up to the interpretation of the viewer or simply have no meaning to it at all, as I feel that applying a specific meaning to a sculpture may leave be creatively limited on what I could do, design wise, the sculpture I’d create would be for spectacle rather than interoperation.
The exhibit itself wouldn’t have any interactive features, viewers would be allowed to walk through and up close to it, but it would simply be for observational purposes.
Sculpture Design
First Draft Marque
For my original marque i designed a small idea revolving around the idea of traditional playing cards, the idea simply was to have large cheap metal playing cards set up vertically at various angles around the park, though i decided against this idea for various reasons, such as if the cards were made out of cheap metal, then they may rust easily in the rain, also they may not be the safest idea as if the cards were to come loose from their stands in some way they may fall over and either injure someone or cause potential damage to the surrounding environment.
