For our end of year show, I made business cards, stickers, a poster and an design deck that showcased the process behind my animation. I also updated both my cv and my showreel.
I also helped out with fundraising as I helped out with the pub quiz we ran. I helped by making questions for one of the rounds of the quiz itself and I also helped by helping collect the entry fee for the quiz and helping collect the money for and hand out raffle tickets during the intermission.
Business card:
For my business card, I made a logo for myself with a simplified caricature of myself that I had previously made and I decided on giving myself the title of ‘2D generalist’ as I don’t entirely know what specific section of the animation industry I’d like to work in just yet. For the back of my business card, I decided to take the long armed character from my animation, Armie, and one of his arms be stretched all over the back of my business card to then be holding a QR code in the centre that led to a site where all my important links are held. I made this decision as I thought it would be relevant to include the characters in other aspects beyond just the animation.

Sticker:
While it wasn’t a compulsory thing, I thought it would be fun to make some stickers for my end of year show display as I thought it would be a fun extra way to promote my animation and myself in general since it would be me and my work that would be connected to it. For the design, I decided to include all three characters from my animation along with the sarcastic tagline of ‘Best Friends’ as, throughout the animation, the trio are anything but that. I thought it would add to the irony that the kid seems happy while Armie and Lou, the aliens, look annoyed with the kid by comparison.

Poster:
This year, instead of big boards like previous years, we are going to have these big 100cm by 150cm banners that will hang above how displays. With this in mind, we all had to make posters for our animations that would be printed onto said banners. For me personally, my poster went through several variations before I settled on a poster layout that both I and lecturers were happy with. I wanted to showcase all three of the characters that are in my animation within my poster while also trying to convey the relationships between them. I think I managed to convey it all well with the kid in the background making a mess as usual while Armie and Lou are in the foreground looking at each other with equal irritation and annoyance at the situation they’ve both ended up in with taking in the kid.
With the text on my poster, I wanted the font itself to look rather childish so I was able to find a font that fit the idea that I was aiming for for free on the internet. Once that was found and added into my Krita file to be used, I, at lecturer suggestion, angled just the word ‘Wrong’ in the title in order to put extra emphasis on the word itself. Previously, I had angled the word ‘Gone’ as well but it was decided that just angling ‘Wrong’ looked much better in the long run.
I then also added some gradients at the suggestion of lecturers to the top and bottom of the floor along with both Armie and Lou in order to add some dimension to the poster as well as to add more contrast to the overall poster. This made the poster look far more interesting than if I had stuck to simple flat colours like I had initially planned to.

Design deck:
For our end of year displays, we were required to make a design deck for our animations. I had never made something like this before but it turned out to be far easier than I had anticipated since I already had everything that had to be included in it just by going through the motions of developing my animation. With that in mind, my design deck simply follows the order of how things were made for my animation; starting with the storyboards to character introductions to final environments for the animation. The final page of my design deck contains a thank you message along with the same QR code that is on the back of my business cards that will lead those who scan it to a website that contains all my important links like to my Instagram, Artstation and my most current showreel which would have all my most up to date work that I’ve produced.
On each page of my design deck, the titles and some other aspects that are on plain white backgrounds have pieces of tape I made in Photoshop on the corners and sides to give the imitation that the book is handmade in a sense, like a scrapbook that a kid would make which fits in with the ideation of my animation as a whole. With the idea of the design deck seeming childish and handmade in mind, the front cover of my design deck contains sheets of paper that are laying on the floor that have childish crayon doodles of the characters on them. I decided to do design it this way in order to convey the idea that the kid from my animation had a hand in making the design deck as well.
End of year show display:
With my end of year show display, I wanted to feed into the childish themes of my animation since it takes place within a day care. With that in mind, I intend to add various toys and building blocks that have the alphabet on it like the ones that are featured within my animation. I also plan to have blank pieces of paper and crayons that visitors will be encouraged to doodle on much like how the kid in my animation doodles on the wall. I hope that this will add a fun interactive element to my display that people will hopefully enjoy.
On top of these things, I was able to make standees of each of the characters so that they can stand on my display and be apart of fun. This will also give visitors a better idea of their different heights and how long Armie’s arms can be. I also will have a little cardboard box that I will have designed by my younger sister to add to the childish theme that will contain my stickers. Since I want it to be sort of kid themed, I brought a teddy bear I have along to be part of the display. I was also able to borrow a play mat that has houses and roads on it from a friend to cover my table that will have everything sat on top of to add to the overall theme and feel of my display. I will also have a bigger version of my QR code out on my display as well as copies of my cv. I also have the turntables and expression sheets of each character out as well to compliment the standees in showing off how the characters look overall to those who take the time to visit my display.
