Sculpture – Idea Writeup

For our sculpture class, we were asked to come up with a sculpture that would be placed by the University in the playpark. I decided to focus on my cut in half flower sculpture as I feel it was the better idea of the two ideas I had come up with.

The reason for my cut in half flower sculpture is that it can be educational for the public, both adults and children alike. It would be an easy, public way for people to learn more about how a flower works and what a flower is made up of on the inside.

If the cut in half flower sculpture, which I have decided to name “The Flower Diagram”, was to be actually created in person, it would be built in a decent spot between the University and the playpark next to it. It would also roughly stand 6 to 7 feet tall so that it is on the bigger side but still relatively short enough for people to look at all the different parts and sections to the inner workings of a flower.

“The Flower Diagram” would be built out of GRP with a metal construction inside of it as GRP can be coloured. Also in the spot where “The Flower Diagram” would be built, the foundation below it would need to be replaced or reinforced with concrete so that 14mm anchor bolts can be put through the base of the sculpture into the concrete to keep the sculpture in place.
