The third and final sculptor I decided to do some research on is Jeff Koons.
Koons was born in 1955 in York, Pennsylvania and went on to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the School of Art Institute of Chicago, receiving his BFA from the former in 1976. Koons started to rise to prominence in the mid 80’s within a generation of artists that were delving into the meaning of spectacle and art in a more media-saturated era with his own declared artistic intention to “communicate with the masses” and use of conceptual constructs.
I personally think Koons work is pretty unique and interesting. What caught my eye the most was his installations of huge balloon animal recreations using polished stainless steel which really added the kind of balloon-y texture to them. I think those recreations are fascinating, I don’t think I’ve ever quite seen sculptures like them before.
