The second paper artist I decided to research is Kate Colin.
Colin is a maker/designer that’s based in Glasgow in Scotland. Colin creates handmade wall installations, wall art and lighting from paper with inspiration from origami and geometric forms. Along with geometric forms, Colin is also interested in tonal variations, colour and shadow and she uses her work as a vehicle to experiment with how those subjects would interact with each other. Each handmade piece of work by Colin is folded and scored and, when they’re illuminated, each pieces appearances change as each crease, fold and angle is more emphasised.
The reason I decided to do some research on Colin is because I love how she folds her work, the folds look so clean and precise. I love how they look somewhat simple despite the amount of folding and time that went into making each piece of work.
I was inspired by the clean folds in her work and the slight intricacy of each piece that she creates. I think it would be interesting to try and see if I could simulate some similar kinds of folds in my own work. It would make my work seem somewhat complicated.
