Speed drawings – TADF

For TADF we were asked to do speed drawings of the garments of the Moschino Spring Summer 2021 collection. Now, I did this without pausing since it’s what the document said, but another source told me to pause, but I chose to stay with the speed ones without pausing, since there is a charm to them.

Here is my take on the Moschino video we were asked to watch and draw the fashion from. It was a very interesting thing to do, and I must admit I did have a lot of issues getting it right without focusing too much on the small details, rather what’s important.
I really enjoyed the video and it’s content. Having a marionette fashion show is extremely clever, especially now during a pandemic.

I wasn’t extremely happy with it at the start, but the longer I studied my own speed drawing, the more I fell in love with it.

I have never done any speed drawings when it comes to fashion and it was interesting to say at least. The way I sketch is extremely pointy and abstract, not even close to soft. But I feel like I captured the garment really well, even tho I didn’t manage to draw some since it was so fast.

Gucci Spring Summer 2020 Fashion Show

I wanted to continue doing these speed drawings from different fashion shows. I looked up Gucci because I know that their fashion shows always bring interesting clothes.

Doing speed drawings from this video was extremely hard, since the models continuously appeared and had about 3 seconds screen time, until the next one arrived.

I decided to play with the idea of a softer drawing, and gave it a try for this one. Gucci is known to do designer accessories and bags, which isn’t something I would notice during this fashion show.

The clothes didn’t vary much, since they had the same shape and it ended up not being very interesting to draw. I was not very happy with the result, but I tried at least.

Thierry Mugler Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1997

This was my final speed drawing I made, and I found my style and how I to work the best.

I have seen previously Thierry Mugler garments but I have never had the opportunity to watch his fashion shows. It was an amazing experience and it had me glued on his fashion shows hours after I was done with the speed drawing.

Thierry had very extravagant fashion shows during the 90’s and that’s what inspires me the most. I used a lot of hourglass shapes to get the model down quickly while drawing the outfit, since he worked a lot with corsets and skin tight clothes, such as latex.

There was also a lot of variation in terms of how the garment was designed. There were sections and each one of them never repeated after it was done. Which had me working with a lot of different styles.

I didn’t finish the whole show but, I was happy when I had filled the paper.

I had an amazing experience overall with this project, since I got to dive deeper in a fashion designer I’ve been curious about previously.

I also found my personal speed drawing style in terms of fashion, which I’m extremely happy with.
