Exploring ideas by using the scoring technique!

Here are my contributions from today’s product design class where we were experimenting with scoring paper, to create different kinds of folds and shapes for us to use when creating our own lamp.
I played with different ideas of making round shapes to make a softer shape to play with. I have never really understood how people do it, so I had a lot of fun when I actually understood how to make them.
I wanted to make something basic and easy as my first ones and work my way from there. I started off scoring straight lines diagonally and folded them. There wasn’t much else to that since it was a very basic idea.
I have always likes the Art Deco aesthetic and took inspiration from that when making many of these. To use very harsh shapes only to soften them out one way or another to create a balance.
I played with the inspiration of a seashell here, and managed to create a shape that would be a gorgeous repetitive design for a lamp.
With this black one I wanted to create more of a 3D shape where the middle would be flat and stand out from the rest of the piece. I managed to create this idea by scoring a lot of lines and fold them accordingly. I had to do a few cuts to make the middle part stay flat, but I’m very please with the finished result.
For this one I took inspiration from curtains, bows and seashells to create this abstract piece.

I had a lot of fun experimenting and it gave me a lot of ideas to how to work with our next project creating a lamp. I worked a lot using Abstract and Art Deco as an inspiration, creating neat lines and a symmetrical shape to them.
