My projects in foundation year at UU

Recreating images

For this project we were asked to recreate images from art.

I had a lot of thoughts and ideas in mind, and I wanted to go in a different direction in terms of famous art. I chose to go for controversial, horrifying, macabre and funny. I wanted my photos to be recognized, hence the famous photos.

I had a lot of fun researching what pieces I wanted to recreate and I can’t wait to start with the next part.

The paintings/sculptures I’m looking into are:

The hands resist him – painted, Bill Stoneham 1972

The End of Summer: THE HANDS RESIST HIM

A supposedly haunted self portrait of Bill Stoneham. It surfaced early 2000’s on Ebay as “haunted painting”.

The figures in the painting supposedly moves during the night sometimes even left the painting. People that have seen the painting in person and even online have said that it makes them feel very uneasy and sick. Previous owners are said to have passed away a year after getting rid of it.

Ideas:

  • Photoshop myself twice into the picture? (kitchen door for hands?)
  • Use window in room?

The dead mother – painted, Edvard Munch – 1900

The Dead Mother, 1899 - 1900 - Edvard Munch - WikiArt.org

Another painting that’s supposed to be haunted made by the famous painter Munch. It portrays a young girl with her dead mother in bed covering her ears.

The rumors about this painting being haunted is to be questioned. But people claim that they have felt like the girls eyes follow them and that they have heard that the sheets rustle or move.

Ideas:

  • Someone snooring behind person covering ears
  • loud people in the background (hence covering the ears) – Possible a party while said person is studying?

Stoned fox, made by Adele Morse, 2012

Stoned Fox - Wikipedia

A beautiful taxidermy piece done by a Scottish artist. This picture have been an internet sensation for several years because of the awkward pose and facial expression of the fox.

There are several things you can do to recreate this piece. I thought it would be funny to bring an old meme back to life with this project since this is actually someones art.
I was playing with the idea of being in an awkward situation, a situation you don’t want to be in and just want to escape.

Ideas:

  • awkward situation? Party?
  • Costume party?
  • Alcohol intoxication to create this awkward situation?

Nature of fear – Nicola Samori

nicola-samori-15

I chose these two paintings done by Nicola Samori. They don’t really have a name but they’re a part of a collection called “Nature of fear”.

Samori’s art looks like the old masters oil paintings, but with a terrifying twist to it. Surrealistic, macabre and horror. These elements added to his picture made the quite famous online.

I love the way the manipulates the paintings in the most gruesome way. His other paintings are gorgeous, but it’s not material that I would be able to use for this assignment.

The reason to why I wanted to use these paintings is because I see a lot of potential in recreating these macabre pieces. There is a lot you can do with them and create incredible photos with them.

Ideas:

  • Tissues
  • blankets
  • Replace string with something?

Salvator Muni – Leonardo Da Vinci, 1506–1513

Leonardo da Vinci | Salvator Mundi, 1499 | Tutt'Art@ | Pittura • Scultura • Poesia • Musica

I have always adored the works of the old master Leonardo Da Vinci, and I’m for certain that many people will use more of his famous works in this assignment. But I can’t help but to feel drawn to this painting of his. A painting that not too long ago re-surfaced after hundreds of years and restored. It had a long journey before it found it’s place in a museum.

There have been several controversies about this painting, since many critics claim that Leonardo Da Vinci is not the painter of this piece, but art experts say otherwise.

Ideas:

  • Blanket?
  • Orb replaced with an object, coffee? Brush in other hand?
