Product Design – Product Statement
Over the past 2 weeks I have designed and developed a product that protects the user from getting splashed by water. I call it SplashSafe.
SplashSafe is a small and compact device that sits comfortably around the neck, emitting a forcefield to protect the user from getting splashed by water, replacing umbrellas, shower caps, clothes protectors and more. Its simple design is appealing to the modern-day user as it is a fashionable alternative to cumbersome umbrellas. I decided to go for a simple, collar like design, as modern fashion trends are heading towards minimalism and closer-to-the-neck designs. I have opted for a soft silicone design as it is both comfortable for the user as it is somewhat flexible, allowing it to easily fit around the user’s neck shape. Silicone is also waterproof; this is a key design feature as the product is designs to protect the user against water. The product will also be available in many different colours, patterns, and textures to appeal to a large audience range from the elderly to children. SplashSafe’s round the neck design is optimal compared to other locations such as the abdomen or wrists as it allows the user to easily interact with the product’s functionality, all the while being up to date with the latest fashion trends. Placing this product on the neck allows the forcefield that the product emits to evenly cover either/both the head and the body. The product uses micro tech to emit a type of forcefield that covers the chosen area of the body, protecting it against getting wet or dirty when it is raining. The user chooses whether they want to cover just their head, just their body or both by the use of a button on the product. Clicking the button once to turn the device on/off and twice to switch between cover modes. To ensure the fashionable appearance of the product is not compromised the charging point is hidden at the back of the device.
