Final Vinyl cover
Final Vinyl cover

I chose the song ‘Achilles, come down’ by Gang of Youths as I thought that the lyrics would suit a punk rock album. I couldn’t decide between a black and neon colour palette and torn newspaper so I decided to make two vinyl’s, one using old wallpaper with black and pink paint with yellow font and the other torn up newspaper with red tape. I printed out photos of an Achilles statue and defaced it to fit in with the punk rock atmosphere.

Quick sketches of my plans for the final vinyl’s.

I wanted this cover to look like a crime scene, so I used yellow paint squares for the font to resemble police tape, hand prints to suggest prints found at a crime scene. I put the name of the band on the back in a messy font and scored out the lyric ‘virtue’. I used an old credit card to scrape the pink paint over the black to make it look messy, I really like the effect this has.

Painting process.

For the second cover I used newspaper and black paint for the background then splattered red paint to resemble blood to fit with the lyrics of the song. I then taped a photo of Achilles and used red paint to paint tears on it, and the lyrics ‘Just Jump’, and stamped the title on the front and used the tape technique on the back to write the band name. To stick with the sepia colour of the newspaper, I used a sepia stamp and splattered red paint.
