Alt Means mark making project

For this workshop I had to create 12 tools and experiment with the different marks they could make, I thoroughly enjoyed this project and am pleased with the outcome.

Mark making tools:

  • cut cardboard
  • broken comb attacked to cardboard
  • A feather tied to a foam stick
  • A pipe cleaner taped to a foam stick
  • String tied to a knitting needle
  • A toy spring taped to a knitting needle
  • A fish tank decoration taped to a knitting needle
  • Gold chain fastened to a knitting needle
  • Rosemary tied with string to a foam stick
  • 3 Q-tips tied with string
  • Cocktail sticks taped to carboard
  • Bubble wrap wrapped around a cardboard tube with squares cut out.

The order of the marks made are (going across from left to right); cut card board, spring , cocktail sticks, chain, q-tips, string, fish tank decoration, broken comb, pipe cleaner, feather, bubble wrap and rosemary. My favourite marks were made using the cut cardboard and string.

This piece was created using sting dipped in india ink and dragged across the page, I wanted it to resemble a landscape study.

Size: A4.                                      This mark was created using the cut card, I like the effect of it when swirled.

Size: A4.                                                I recreated the swirled mark with cut card and added some lines and dots with the q-tips to make it more interesting.

Size: A2                                                                           I used the cut card again to create swirling lines, I enjoy the tones transition from light to dark. I also used the q-tips, cocktail sticks and spring.
