In preparation of etching my copper plate I worked out the imagery in my sketchbook trying to simplify the curtains and see what I needed for the line etch and what to add in aquatint. To
In my sketchbook that week I focused on getting rubbings of things around the house and outside, we were encouraged to go outside and document what is around us. I used oil pastels and found black worked best to get clear imagery, I started inside with cupboards and kitchen tile then went outside. I took rubbings from the ground, the walls of my house, the stone wall around the garden, the bench and just tried to get different textures. Then I went back inside and took rubbings of the coffee machine, orange netting and the scraps from my paper when I rip them from my sketchbook. I tried layering different colours and combining different rubbings to make compositions which wasn’t something I had done before, it was less about them reading as the specific things as it was the textures I got.
