Week 11 Printing

This week I created another copper etching, firstly the line etch and I had an older piece of copper with some scratches still after polishing that ended up adding the the print really well. The speckles and scratches left from the plate that come through in the print really add a feeling of age, they also show the process in making the plate aside form the image itself being an example of human process. As I printed the image and even as I was drawing it on the copper plate, having it read as curtains and a window in this very simplified state mattered less as it still reads as a liminal place, the form and line is balanced to me with enough breathing space.

Then I added chine-collé just to the window, I did consider the other areas but I felt it would be too much since the curtains, floor and wall are broken up by line. The blue print was my favourite, it just added a lightness that wasn’t too bright.

I had also brought my copper plate from previous to take another print trying different colours and chine-collé but ran out of time and instead focused on my new plate. I wanted to use brown ink to get a softer feel but tried the chine-collé first, I found it a bit too heavy on the image.
