Guest Speakers

This week we were lucky enough to have 3 guest speakers to talk about their different careers that they’ve had in the industry. We had two guest speakers Zoe Woods and Aisling McElroy, who are recent graduates from this course, and Greg Woodcock who graduated from Swansea Met Uni. It was very interesting to hear about their career paths as even though they have all studied animation, they have all worked in different roles and for different studios.

While listening to the talks it was interesting to hear how they initially planned to go into one field, but ended up going into a different one instead. They also shared a variety of the different projects they had worked on which ranged from live action work, to CGI for children’s tv, to advertisement to video games.

I found these talks to be very informative as I learnt about roles that I never even knew existed such as a data wrangler, which involved managing a render farm and flagging any errors that came up or any fixes that would need to be made. I also found it fascinating to hear about everyone’s career path. Everyone’s career path since graduating has been a unique experience for them as they have all taken on different roles and so they have each had different experiences in the industry.

Overall I believe that these guest talks have been very helpful as they provided a good insight in what it is like to work in the animation industry. It was also very encouraging to hear, as they told us take work opportunities as we might find something that we love that we may have never even considered before.
