Lauren Carlin ( http://www.lauracarlin.com/ )
Lauren Carlin is an illustrator and ceramics maker. She is known for her naïve drawing and painting style.
Lauren has said her main inspiration for drawing was her family, they wanted her to draw realistically rendered cats, but she rebelled by doing her more known style of drawing instead. They don’t like these drawings by her. She incorporates a lot of vulgar topics into her art.
She was also inspired by pieces by artists like Saul Steinberg and Picasso. She made a lot of sketch books, but she was told that no one would want to buy them, so she had to think of a way to make money through her work. Her first commissioned work was “Ten Days in Tokyo”, which was full of drawings that she made while in Tokyo. She has produced art for several magazines and books, two of which she published herself. The other book she published was a children’s book called “A World of your Own”. She originally had contempt of being a children’s book illustrator, as she considers her a cynical person, but she soon realised that a lot of the techniques that she and her influences have for making art are similar.
