Sara Fanelli ( http://www.sarafanelli.com/docs/bg02.html# )
Sara Fanelli is an illustrator/graphic designer who does various illustrations for things like book covers, posters and pamphlets, though she also does other art like typography. Most of her works are children’s books that are illustrated and written by her. Her first work is Button, published in 1994 and her latest work is Sometimes I Think, Sometimes I Am, published in 2007. Her illustration work incorporates a variety of mark making styles, as well as other art types like collage. Her art style has a paper cut-out style. Her book characters have various recurring elements. Her character designs look like they were made with construction paper and constructed with simple shapes, similar to that of the art style of South Park. Her human characters are made up of all simple shapes, with circles or crescents making up the head shapes, with details added like rosy cheeks and big noses and she also designs odd creatures, who have more strange body shapes and more vibrant colours, as well as using various pieces for textures like photos and writings. They would have cut out images for certain elements like clothes. Her characters’ eyes are either rendered realistic eyes or actual cut out photos of eyes.
Most of the backgrounds add to the paper aesthetic as she uses lined paper, as well as things like envelopes and photographs as backgrounds. She even incorporates typography into her work through this, as she sometimes uses writings on paper for backgrounds (as well as some textures of characters). She uses mostly muted colour schemes. Sara also has some sketchbook pages that’s shown on her site. She uses paint for them and renders them with thick brush strokes. Her typography work is bold and colourful. Her type changes with each word, whether they change font, size and boldness.
