Wizard Staff Reflection

My class had to design a model in Maya for Digital Literacy. We had a choice of what we could model, so I chose to design a wizard’s staff.

My favorite part of the making of the model was the concept stage, as it made me look through work for inspiration. I had already thought up what I wanted aesthetically for my model, but the works that I chose to look through helped me come up with the finalized design, which I feel blended everything I like from what I was influenced by.

I had trouble modelling the staff, as it was hard to create the skull on the model, because I used a simple sphere to create it. I do think that it added to the design of the model though, as I was going for a strange/alien creature vibe for the skull.

I feel like the style of texturing I did could’ve been more consistent as the skull and hand look more cel shaded and stylized with solid coloring, but the other elements like the staff, the rings on the staff and the nail that holds the hand are rendered with more detailed textures.

I believe the model came out decent.
