Chinese animation (also known as Donghua) is animation created in China.
A common theme within Chinese animation is adapting famous stories that originated in China. An example would be the story “Journey to the West”, a story about the adventures of Sun Wukong, the monkey king. The story is one of the most well known stories originating in China, considered one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese Literature. It’s also been referenced, adapted and reimagined through various different cultures and mediums (one example being the Dragon Ball franchise). A Chinese animated adaption of the story is Havoc in Heaven, a two part animated feature with part one released in 1961 and part two released in 1964.
The action presented in the film is shown with no cuts, similar to the way action and fight scenes are shot in Chinese live action movies, preferring to show every action in full.
