Perspective in art terms is where a 2 dimensional image is given a 3 dimensional feel, through the use of illustrating or creating artificial surfaces that emulate how they would be viewed from other angles.
Through animation, perspective can exaggerated by drawing angles that contort the forms of the characters and backgrounds.
An work that I think does this is Aeon Flux, created by Peter Chung. Aeon Flux is a sci-fi action animated series. Peter Chung has a unique style of directing animation, most notably his use of angles. The intro to the series demonstrates this perfectly.
Peter Chung’s character designs are known for their exaggerated slender figures, inspired by Austrian Expressionist painter, Egon Schiele, so his use of angles really help with the bizarre direction of the series.
There are shots in the intro that help with the atmosphere and the strange angles make for really striking images.
The angles also gives the action more impact, like in the shot where Aeon punch’s a solider into the air.
I would like to incorporate this into my work.
These are some photos that I took. I added lines to show off the perspective of the photos.
