AAD011 – Audience

Audience is the people intended to enjoy a piece of work, whether it is meant for a specific type of person or gains a following from a group completely different from the intended idea of the people who would enjoy it. While audience are normally meant to be observers to an artistic endeavor, they can also influence the creator’s later work and approach towards creating the work through various means like reception, reaction to specific parts of the work, criticisms, etc. An example seen in TV shows would be a character getting popular, so they get more appearances.

Audiences can also get involved in the creation of art through audience participation. For example, German installation artist Carsten Höller designed “Test Site” in the Tate Modern which is a giant slide anyone can use in the museum.
