For my theme, I did art pieces relating to horror films. I changed up the style and techniques I used for each one.
Halloween:
I started this one off with pencils. I then colored it in with colored pencils and a black sharpie for shading. I will add a background digitally when I scan it.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre:
I did a sharpie sketch first for this piece and then did the finished piece with sharpie as well. Colored with markers.
Alien:
Done in watercolor. I’ll zoom into the face for the full piece for the zine.
Evil Dead:
I came up with a few concepts for this one til I found one I liked. I started off with a pencil sketch. I colored the character with colored pencils and the BG with marker and sharpie to make the character pop more. I also think it frames the image in a creative way.
Predator:
This piece is done entirely in watercolors.
The Thing:
This minimalistic piece was done first with a colored pencil, a sharpie for the BG and a marker for the bit of red.
Scream:
This was made with sharpie. I used some strange linework to show off the form of the character.
Blair Witch Project:
This was made with watercolors. I used a painting technique for the trees to make them look jagged.
Cube:
Done in pencil, coloring pencil and paint.
Saw:
Done in watercolour.
American Psycho:
I needed a marker to draw the character’s face and hands and used paint on the rest of him. The marker colors I used made the character look like something from an 80s album cover (which is when the film takes place). To apply the paint that looks like blood, I did quick repetitive flicks of the paint brush onto the paper to give it a messy, erratic feel.
The Devil’s Rejects:
This piece was done in entirely with paint (though I started with a sharpie sketch) feauting a more cartoon-esqe art style. I used a limited color palette with red and yellow. This one was the hardest for me to come up with a picture concept for.
I feel like the best ones I’ve done were The Thing and Devil’s Rejects pieces, as I used creative means to convey the tone of the films in a unique way.
Title cards for decades:
To creatre these images, I print some photographs I took of my horror collection, drew some numbers with unique typefaces and scanned them over the photographs.
