Joan Miro is a ceramics maker from Barcelona and I find his work very interesting. His work with ceramics ranges from vases, rocks and other objects which feature odd creature designs. Miro was also a painter, so I enjoy how he combines these 2 mediums.
This is an example of my first attempt at working in ceramics. It was not difficult to work with and manipulate, but it dries out very quickly so I needed to mold it within a short space of time. As a medium, it was quite interesting. I enjoyed expirimenting with varying amounts of clay. I’m creating a pattern type effect in the outline of the house.
I have a good amount of clay left to creatre more detail on the features of the house such as the door and window. I used some different tools to creatre a textured surface.
The first technique was a plaiting effect to creatre dimension and a textured surface. The next effect was created using a fork which looked a brick design for around the window. I also used the tip of a pencil and a pin to experiment a little with variations in surface design.
Up until now, I’ve worked in mark making, charcoal, watercolor and acrylics. With this medium, I tried to use certain elements that I’ve used in previous work such as a sense of dimension, movement and texture. It will be interesting to apply on a later stage.
This is the last piece of ceramics I made. I used a technique of rolling bits of clay and pressing it onto the paper.
All of these pieces were hardened before I could finish them.
